A Report On The E-C Translation Of Queen Of The Night(Chapters 1-5)

This is a report on the English to Chinese translation of children's literature work,and the source text is the Australian children literature writer Leanne Hall's English novel Queen of the Night(Chapters 1-5).The first five chapters are mainly about the two heroes' lives when they rejoin again to have another adventure to Shyness after their last common adventure to Shyness.This translation report offers the corresponding solution to the difficulties encountered in the translation process.In the translation process,the translator takes readers as the center,and uses the corresponding strategy to deal with difficulties in translation of proper nouns,sentences and cultural differences.For the difficulties in translating proper nouns,the method of amplification is used to explain the proper nouns so that the proper nouns are easier for children to understand and accept.For the difficulties in translating sentences,the methods of conversion,inversion and division are used,in order to make the sentences logically simpler and make them understood by target readers easily.For the difficulties in cultural differences,in order to establish a link between Chinese culture and Western cultures,the translator uses domesticating in an attempt to translate what is difficult for Chinese children to understand into what is familiar to Chinese children.In the translation practice,the translator further understands that a qualified translator must have a solid language skill,rich cultural knowledge and certain degrees of translation skills,and realizes that the translator must improve his translation skills and professional ability in the continuous translation practice.
