A Report Of The E-C Translation Of Queen Of The Night (Chapters 22-33)

This is a report of an English-Chinese translation practice.The translator selects Chapters 22-33 of Queen of the Night,a youth literature by Australian writer Leanne Hall,as the source text.The report takes Reception Theory by Hans Robert Jauss as the theoretical guidance.In the first place,the report presents the background of the translation project,objectives of the translation project and significance of the translation project.Next,it gives the brief introduction to the author and the source text.The report focuses on the application of Reception Theory to the translation process with the usage of seven translation methods,including transliteration,liberal translation,notation,amplification,inversion,applying four-character phrases and conversion.Applying seven translation methods,the translator has solved the lexical translation,the syntactic translation,vividness of the language and translationese.Ultimately,the report concludes the translation experience and discusses the unsolved problems.During the translation,the translator translates the source text from the young readers' perspective to reproduce the magic scenes and inner activities of leading characters so as to pursue the same effect to the young readers as that to the readers of the source text.At the same time,it is expected to provide a Chinese translation version of the source text for reference and make a meager contribution to the translation of the youth literature.
