A Report On Chinese-english Translation Of Business Cooperation Proposals

Along with the global economic and trade integration,international business contacts increase and become very common.Various foreign contracts,letters and commercial promotion increase gradually,making the translation of business texts more and more significant.As a communication bridge in commercial activities,high-quality translation plays a crucial role in promoting mutual cooperation and enhancing the images of enterprises and governments.Therefore,qualified translation of business texts become a necessity for all kinds of foreign economic activities.Skopos theory,put forward by the German linguist and translator Hans J.Vermeer,is the core of German functionalist translation theory.According to Skopos theory,translation is a behavior with certain purposes,and the purpose of a translation determines translation process and strategies.It breaks restrictions of equivalent translation,frees translation from the bondage of the source language and enhances the subjectivity of translator.Focusing on the function of the target text and the practicability of translation,Skopos theory has been widely applied in business text translation.This report is based on the author’s translation practice related to "China Development Forum 2016:Greetings from Shandong".The author translated some cooperation proposals concerning Shandong Province and six multinational enterprises.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author finished the entire translation task successfully.This report discusses the application of the three rules of Skopos theory(skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule)in Chinese-English translation of business cooperation proposals,and analyzes various translation techniques and methods that the author adopted in accordance with these three rules and specific contexts,such as conversion,voice changes,division and combination,hoping to achieve the communication purpose and realize intratextual and intertextual coherence in the target text.This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One provides a brief introduction to the source and background information of the translation task and the features of the source text,which is followed by an elaboration of the whole translation process in Chapter Two.Chapter Three introduces some translation principles of business text proposed by domestic scholars and thoroughly analyzes the concept,development and three rules of Skopos theory.Chapter Four,as the core of the whole report,talks about the specific application of Skopos theory in the translation of business cooperation proposals.Based on the three rules of Skopos theory and exemplified by some translation samples,it discusses the guidance of the three rules respectively and concludes and elucidates different translation techniques and strategies in each rule from the perspective of words,sentences and logic.Chapter Five concludes with a summary of this report and the author’s translation experience.
