With the acceleration of economic globalization and the more and more scientific and technological exchanges between China and foreign countries, the translation of popular science texts has become an important part of translation activities. At the same time, with the rapid development of China’s economy and society, the domestic pet rearing population is increasing day by day,but many pet owners lack scientific pet care knowledge. The translation text selected in this practice report is the first to fifth chapters of the popular science book,Guide to a Healthy Cat.This book is a popular science book written by American zoologist Elaine Wexler Michel. It mainly describes the problems that may be encountered in the process of raising cats and the corresponding solutions. The content of the text meets the requirements of the times and can help people learn more about scientific cat care. The translator chooses this text to write a translation practice report, hoping to improve her translation level of popular science texts and better guide the translation of popular science texts and informationbased texts by using the three principles of Skopos Theory. This report analyzes and discusses the problems encountered in the process of translation from two levels of word and sentence and seeks solutions from the perspective of the three principles of Skopos Theory: Skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule. With the help of these three principles, this translation practice report discusses and analyzes different translation techniques, including annotation, amplification, omission, etc.Through analysis, the translator finds that the Skopos rule and coherence rule can help analyze the source text and determine the overall style of the translation, while the fidelity principle can ensure the delicacy and professionalism of the translation. In this translation practice, the translator not only has a better understanding of Skopos Theory and its application in science texts translation but also improves her translation skills in the process of repeatedly polishing the translation.
