Transference Of Formal Markers In Two Chinese Versions Of For One More Day

This thesis, based on Mr.Liu’s style theory, attempts to explore the stylistic transference of two Chinese versions of For One More Day, written by Mitch Albom. From the perspective of Liu Miqing, the symbolic markers can be divided into formal markers and non-formal markers. The formal markers, from different linguistic level, are classified into six markers. However, this thesis emphasizes on three of them: phonological markers, syntactic markers, and textual markers. The thesis presents that sometimes, translators-Wu Zheng and Wang Yun, by efforts, have transferred those markers into Chinese version. They utilize the method either of Corresponding or of Recasting to fulfill such aim. But sometimes, they, after considerations, just ignore those markers, failing to transfer the style. Therefore, for a better translation version, translators should firstly dig into the styles of the original text, then transfer them appropriately. To do so, translators must improve their abilities to recognize the markers and also the power to transfer them.
