| Style reproduction is one of the important consideration of literary translation,especially for children’s literary translation.Qingtong Kuihua is one of the famous children’s literary work of Cao Wenxuan,a representative writer of Chinese children’s literature.The language of Qingtong Kuihua has remarkable personal characteristics.The English version translated by Helen Wang,Bronze and Sunflower,is popular with foreign readers and is a successful example of overseas spreading of Chinese children’s literature.The purpose of this study is to analyze the English translation of Qingtong Kuihua through specific examples,and to explore certain principles for stylistic reproduction of children’s literature.The Stylistic Markers Theory put forward by professor Liu Miqing is helpful for translators to understand the style of literary works the translation practice.The theory discusses the techniques to reproduce the original language style,through identifying and analyzing the stylistic markers,and evaluates the gain and loss of the translation in style reproduction.Based on the Stylistic Markers theory,this paper makes a detailed analysis on Helen Wang’s translation.The author finds that Helen Wang flexibly uses various translation techniques to deal with different stylistic markers,and reproduces the stylistic features of the original text as much as possible in the translation.This paper proposes that when dealing with various stylistic markers in children’s literature translation,the translator should not only pay attention to reproducing the original stylistic markers in the translation so as to faithfully recreate the original style,but also fully consider the acceptability of the target text,to meet the reading expectations of the target special readers of children’s literature.It is hoped that the results of this study could be of some help for the translation of children’s literature in the future. |
