This article is a report on the translation of excerpts from Life and Sport in China written by Oliver G.Ready, and a brief introduction about the translation methods and strategies adopted in the process of translation. The content of the book in chapter one to chapter three is the description of the author's life, entertainment, and work in China, which records the social situation of China one hundred years ago and the life of the Anglo-Chinese. It is of great significance for the research of the growing domestic western sinology (Chinese studies) and meets the various needs of Chinese academics.Translation is a transformation in the form of language. According to the language characteristics and the style of the text, the author has conducted a detailed analysis of the original text in the lexical and syntactic aspects under the guideline of Skopos theory. The report is divided into five parts. The first chapter gives a specific interpretation of the book, including the source, contents and significance of the project. The second chapter is the preparation before the start of the report, including the analysis of text features and the research of the parallel text before the translation. The third part is the narration of the Skopos theory, including the Skopos rule, coherence rule, and the fidelity rule and the relations of them. The fourth chapter, the key of the report, conducts the analysis of the examples in the text, and puts forward the corresponding translation methods, for example, word conversion, amplification, omission, linear translation, reverse translation, division translation, combination translation and so on, to achieve the transformation from the source language to the target language. The last part is a short conclusion of the report. English and Chinese are substantially different at syntactic level. Translators should first figure out the logic relationship of the original text, then flexibly make the use of various translation methods and techniques in accordance with the Chinese expression style, and finally form a faithful and smooth translated text. The writer has deeply recognized the guidance significance of Skopos theory in the process of translation and his translation level should be improved through hard study. Finally, the writer hopes the report could be helpful for the translation of travel text.
