Research On The New Century Local Novel In People Literature (2000-2013)

It is a tradition to concern and write rural China in Chinese literature. The fate of local novel has been paid a lot attention by academia since the new century, because the rural area has been shrunk under the attack of urbanization. People Literature has a lot to do with local novel since the beginning. In the new century, it continues to provide a stage to develop local novel with its diversity and authority. The writer finds that local novel still plays a big part in People Literature(2000-2013) according to investigation concerning the quality and quantity of the number of works and writers. While some characteristics of local novel's current situation can be found by comparing the writers of 1950 s and 1960 s with those of 1970 s and1980s.This essay consists five chapters altogether: introduction, the first chapter, the second chapter, the third and the conclusion. In the introduction, cultural background in the new century, the basis of this subject, and literature review relating to the topic are introduced. The first chapter concludes the relationship between People Literature and local novel. From the beginning to the 1990 s, People Literature is signalized by the local novel during its trends. In terms of works and writers of local novel in People Literature, the age structure among the writers seems to be “aging”, and their roots distribute unevenly. Besides, local novel concentrates on writing the backward areas and attempt to discuss the interaction between urban and rural areas.The second and the third chapter describe the writing characteristics of writers of 1950 s and 1960 s, and those of 1970 s and 1980 s. Writers of 1950 s and 1960 s inclined to describe rural areas in their memory from the view of their own experiences. They discuss the traditional countryside using misery narration, as well as poetic pastoral. While in the new century, this kind of writing seems to be strapped when it occurs to the great changes in the countryside. Writers of 1970 s and 1980 s speak as urban dwellers, trying to return to the countryside spiritually. There are the characteristics of fragmentation, homogenization and signified in the works of those writers. In this way, it is difficult to discover the deep structural meaning in rural world.The conclusion summarizes the current situation of local novel in People Literature. The aging problem of the writers may lead to more sophisticated issues. The future of local novel is effected by the signified and urbanization in the aspect of regional space. And ? shows the complex and fragmentation in the rural areas. Nonfiction in thePeople Literature also exposes over-fictional and imaginary phenomenons in some local novels.
