Literally speaking,the Chinese character “Xiang” symbolizes the village and“Tu” means the earth,but in traditional Chinese Culture,the combination of these two characters “Xiangtu” is not the geographical definition of village,but united areas with specifically traditional cultural roots.The Xiangtu Complex is the national memory and cultural heritage of our nation.This paper’s research target is the documentary about rural China and this paper tries to examine the pastoral narration,cultural aesthetics and humanitarian care of the documentary.Furthermore,the research also analyzes the methodology in terms of description of rural communities,concludes the social and historical significance of the documentary narration.This dissertation can be divided into the following sections,Chapter one is literally known as the Introduction part explained the background,methodology,practical significance and academic objective of this research.Besides,this chapter also laid the foundation for the following interpretation of the research,summarized the references about this issue.Chapter two is basically concerning about the humanitarian care of the documentary in a research view of narration orientation.Specifically speaking,this chapter set forth the visual reconstruction of the documentary in terms of the rural groups’ living predicament,the discontent towards emotional needs of migrant workers,the endless circle of poverty inside subaltern communities and the lost identity of the rural female individuals.Chapter three fundamentally discussed about the cultural aesthetics during the pastoral narration and the Utopian imagination towards the pre-industrial civilization.More importantly,this chapter tried to reveal the different side and the amazing beauty of the rural ChinaChapter four primarily probed into the social significance of documentary narration in terms of rural communities and broadened the field of research to visual anthropology as well as aesthetic sociology.This research is derived from the text analysis of the documentary but not strictly restricted within the visual text.It evolvedaround the core field of television studies and stretched the research disciplines to cultural studies and sociology.Chapter five,also known as epilogue,upgraded the research into a philosophy analysis and tried to give an in-depth examination to the different dimensions of documentary narration as a whole.In conclusion,this dissertation tried to approach the complicated relation between the documentary narration and the transformation of rural communities in an academically multidimensional view of visual aesthetics,arts communication and rural sociology.Naturally as it may seem,this research made a series of in-depth case studies in terms of modern classic documentaries for the sake of discovering the cultural reconstruction of documentary and revealing the reality of rural areas.
