| With the deepening of the reform and opening-up policy, foreign trade and cultural exchanges become more and more frequent. The participation in the international political affairs reaches an unprecedented level. Interpretation plays a more and more important role in this process. Because of the high demand of professional interpreters, cultivating high quality of interpreters and improving the quality of interpretation have become urgent tasks.The purpose of interpretation is to provide relevant information and focus on the communicative function to be realized in the target context. The Skopos Theory put forward in 1980s focuses on the expected function of original text with skopos-orientation and the best interpretation strategies according to different factors. Interpreters should pay more attention to the expected function in the target context rather than stick to the original contents and forms. In this way, the interpretation can comply with the target language expression and realize the final intended function in the related context. There are three rules in Skopos Theory, namely, skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. The skopos rule is the primary rule that means the interpretation strategies depend on the purpose. Interpreters adopt different interpretation strategies to achieve different interpretation purposes. By taking the interpretation materials of speeches made by Premier Wen at press conferences as case study, this thesis discusses ZhangLu’s interpretation strategies at the press conference systematically, through case analysis from the perspective of Skopos Theory, in the hope that it will bring some inspiration to interpreters. |
