| Various press conferences are held by the Chinese government each year, especially inevery March. The press conferences during the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) are drawing attention from the world. Therefore, more scholars are paying attention to the NPC and CPPCC press conferences. On the one hand, interpreters act as a bridge for speakers and audiences; on the other hand, the study on press conference interpretation is not enough. Within the framework of Skopos theory, this thesis analyzes the interpretation strategies at the official press conferences of the NPC and CPPCC. Through comparative analysis, we find out the causes for these differences and suggest some interpretation strategies for the official press conferences.The press conference interpretation is principled, implicit and purposeful, which makes the press conference interpretation different from other forms of interpretation. Through analysis, the interpretations of speeches in press conferences are different, and the differences mainly exist in three aspects, that are address forms, poetry and language morphologies. Based on these analyses, four interpretation strategies applied frequently in press conference interpretation are found, that is addition, which is applied for audience to better understand the spokesman’s meaning; omission, which is applied to achieve coherence; replacement, which is applied to be faithful to the source language; and recombination, which is applied to maintain consistency. At the press conferences, due to the formal language register and the highly sensitive content, the interpreter combines those strategies with flexible measures, and the aim of interpretation and Skopos theoryis achieved. |
