Chinese ideograph teaching is an important content in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCSL), which is an indispensable part just as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar teaching. Besides concentrated model, There is a model called Context Literacy. in order to make TCSL more effective under the framework of integrated curriculum and to foster strengths and circumvent weaknesses, this thesis chooses Development of Chinese(comprehensive textbook)(primary)?, ? as the object to research the Chinese ideograph teaching design. With analysis of requirements from students and teachers when using these books, the author finally draw some suggestions for the adjustments to the content design for the character teaching design and the related content design in this book set.This thesis is composed of five parts:The first part is an introduction, mainly explaining the reason to select this topic, the aim and profound meaning of this research and the theories and methods applied in this thesis. This part also introduces the current development of this field and the relevant achievements achievedso far.The second part is designed and composed according to the comprehensive analysis of the learning requirements of the basic Chinese character studying and based on the research of teaching content design for the Chinese character writing part inside Development of Chinese(comprehensive textbook)(primary)?, ?. The second part focus on six aspects of basic knowledge of Chinese character, including the strokes of Chinese characters, the writing rules of words, the basic structure, the component parts and the method of looking up words in dictionaryIn the third part, the students real situation on character studying and writing practice of Development of Chinese(comprehensive textbook)(primary)?, ? will be analyzed. Firstly, the example given in the “Third Part: Learning Chinese Character” in Book ? and the new words and expressions appeared in Book?and ? will be compared to analyze the word-phrase ratio. After comparing this ratio with that of other textbooks,the author will combine the words amount and the specific words teachers and students need with the requirements for the amount and type of exercise from non-Chinese speaking students to recommend reasonable design for Chinese character learning practice.The fourth part is focused on the main element affecting the overseas students' Chinese character studying at the initial stage. By analyzing the characteristics of the scripts of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia as well as their common features and effects on Chinese character writing, this part combines the specific features of Chinese script with the features of the three foreign languages to point out the realistic difficulties and learning emphasis on Chinese character studying for the students from the above three nations.The last part is an extended consideration for the design of Chinese literacy teaching content inside primary comprehensive textbooks.According to the advices from the users of the textbooks, the author gives some modifying suggestions for the shortcomings inside Development of Chinese(comprehensive textbook)(primary) on the basic knowledge,character amount and category as well as the literacy practice related to Chinese literacy studying. Furthermore, some advice about how to make more reasonable TCSL content design under the framework of primary comprehensive course are also be emphasized.In the conclusion part, the whole research will be reviewed and summarized, and the limitations as well as the outline of future research will be proposed.
