The school of Ci poets for Sao-style elegance, with Jiang Kui and Wu Wenying being its central representative poets, and Shi Dazu, Gao Guanguo, Zhou Mi, Wang Yisun, Jiang Jie, Zhang Yan its main representative poets, plays an important role in the history of Chinese Ci study, which is a school of poets in the late Southern Song Dynasty that has the main feature of showing “Sao-style” and “Ya-style”. The poets of this school paid more attention to self reflection, and worshiped elegance itself and made it a rule. Also, they observed the melody strictly.Currently, the research on this school of poets is limited. Based on previous research results and the wide reading of literature research on the school in the Republic of China, the author found that there were distinct differences between the“Southern school of Ci poets” and the “Northern school of Ci poets” during the period of the Republic of China. The Southern and Northern school showed completely different attitude to the poets of the school of Ci poets for Sao-style elegance.Roughly speaking, the Southern school worshiped the school of poets for Sao-style elegance while the Northern school debased it. In this paper, text analysis method, historical method, comparative reading method, quantitative analysis method and point surface method are used to study the specific criticism and do some analysis. The paper aims at enriching the reception study of the school and filling the blanks in the study of the period of the Republic of China as well as providing some ideas for other reception studies in this period. The paper mainly has three chapters. The first chapter is a review of the whole commentary of the school of Ci poets for Sao-style elegance in the Republic of China. This period is the beginning of modern Ci study, the status of Ci has been promoted and the study of Ci has been paid attention to. The “Southern school of Ci poets” and“Northern school of Ci poets” both appeared in this period. The “Southern school of Ci poets” worshiped the school of Ci poets for Sao-style elegance, while the“Northern school of Ci poets” debased it. Their anthology also reflected their attitude. The second chapter analyzes Baishi poetry from the three aspects of Baishi personality, aesthetic style and purport of Ci poems connotation in the perspective ofthe Southern and Northern school of Ci poets and other poets focusing on Ci commentary. Both the Southern and the Northern school gave their affirmations to Baishi's personality. However, as to Baishi's artistry and emotion content in Ci writing, the Southern school advocated imitating it, and the Northern school all tried their best to debase it except Miu Yue.The third chapter mainly discusses the condition of the commentary on Mengchuang and other poets of Sao-style elegance by the Southern and Northern school of Ci poets and other poets. Among them, the Southern school of Ci poets highly praised the temperament skills and deep emotion of Mengchuang-Ci,but they had controversy over the obscure and rhetorical language features. Meanwhile, the Northern school thought that Mengchuang paid so much attention to the pursuit of form that he neglected the depth of content of Ci, so Mengchuang-Ci was even worse than Baishi-Ci, and their trend of commentary on other poets of Sao-style elegance was almost the same. However, because of the imitation of Jiaxuan-Ci in some of his works, Jiang Jie was regarded as an “alien” by the Northern school of Ci poets and was paid much emphasis by them.
