| The 20th century was a very special period in Chinese history, when the social transformation, civil strife, foreign aggression, Cultural Revolution and the impact of the western countries occurred. Under such a historical background, Huang Binhong and Qi Baishi still created their own artistic style in the traditional paintings and had influence on later generations.On the basis of summarizing the research achievements of predecessors, the article entitled The Preliminary Review on the Artistic Style of Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong, employing the historical documents, painting and calligraphy works, and painting reviews synthetically, makes an in-depth and systematic exposition to the life of these two masters as well as the relevant knowledge of their artistic styles. In addition, their painting art, calligraphy art and seal cutting art are compared and contrasted respectively from the pattern of sociological contrast to further demonstrate that their styles have both similarities and innovations. Qi's painting works score a success in their temperament and interest; what's more, they are very folkloric, while Huang's painting works score a success in their sense, full of verve, showing atemperament of literati and scholar-official.Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong are not only highly evaluated in their sharp artistic characteristics and superb skills in the artistic circles home and abroad, but also these two masters inherited the tradition and exploited future, serving as a link between past and future. |
