Study On The Supplementary Biographies Of The Figures In “Quan Tang Wen”

“Quan Tang Wen” is the sylloge of writings of the Tang Dynasty that officially compiled in the Qing Dynasty,which is also the maximal collection of the writings in the Tang Dynasty.This book includes a thousand volumes,covering comprehensive writings from numerous literati.Extensive as it is,it collected the writings of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties for future generations' study and reference.Focusing on the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen”,this study is made to sort and study the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen” through summarizing the supplementary biographies and comparing them with “Jiu Tang Shu” and “Xin Tang Shu”,thus to explore the writing style,literature value and social significance of the supplementary biographies of the figures and to rebuild the historical figures more vividly.This paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter is the introduction of the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen”,including the definition of the concept and the scope.It is focused on the writing purpose,such as expressing certain emotions for relatives and friends,recording the history,civilizing the people,pouring out individual ambitions,and further analyzes and explores each writing purpose.The second chapter covers the comparison between the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen” and “Tang Shu”.Case study was made on the supplementary biographies and the biographies of the same historical figure to explore the similarities,differences and interrelationship.The writing styles of the supplementary biographies and the biographies were also analyzed to explore the differences in preservation.The relationship between the supplementary biographies and the biographies and the causes of such relationship were also analyzed in this chapter.The third chapter covers the value orientation of the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen”,which is divided into four parts.The first part is the demonstration of “loyalty,braveness,filial piety and righteousness” in the supplementary biographies of the figures in “Quan Tang Wen”.The second part focuses on the introduction and analysis of the biographies of some bit parts,aiming to cognize and to understand the supplementary biographies from a special perspective different from that of the big bugs.The third part takes the staunch and chaste women as the main research objects,reflecting the mainstream values and cares for the women at that time.The fourth part mainly focuses on hermits and monks,and discusses another social value orientation based on the supplementary biographies of famous Monks and Taoists.Studying the supplementary biographies of the figures can help rebuild the historical figures more vividly,learn about the mainstream social mentality and understand the ideas of the authors in the specific historical background.Comparing the supplementary biographies with the biographies is also conducive to learning the similarities,differences and relationships in between.
