A Study On The Biographies Of Eminent Monks Of Song Dynasty

The Shi Zan-ning's the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty inherited the Biographies of Eminent Monks and the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Tang Dynasty, and recorded the stories of the Eminent Monks in the initial stanges fo Tang and Song Dynasty. This work mainly concentrated at the textual research of the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty which including the study of the process of composing and the comparison of different sources hoping inducing some kind of characteristics. Because the different of the authors, the background of the ages, and so on, I relate to the comparation of the Biographies of Eminent Monks and the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Tang Dynasty, and try to conclude their inherition and innovation and find the reasons. Furthermore, the dissertation including a few Stat. on some standards of the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty in order to do some conclusions to some phenomenon in the history of Buddhism. This dissertation is divided into a introduction, five chapters and three appendix.The Introduction is divided into four sections. The first section discusses the problems such as the object, the reasons the scope and the purposes of the study. The second section is the study of overview of the last century to find out the experiences for further studying and the start.The third section is the research of thinking plan .The forth section is the research of the methods.Chaper 1:Author of the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty This chapter is divided into five sections. The first section investigates matters related to the author, in which most important is the study of the native place and birthday and deadth. The second is the study of the intercourse of Zan Ning and the scholar-bureaucrats, listing the members and analyzing the reason. The third section is the study of the Zan Ning's writings.The forth section is the study of the special identity of Zan Ning with the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song Dynasty , through the comparation of Hui Jiao and Dao Xuan. The fifth section is the study of the clime factor influencing the book.Chaper 2:Writing time and the age's background of the Biographies of Eminent Monks of Song DynastyThis chaper is divided into two sections.The first section is the study of the writing time including the starting time, the ending time and the amending time. The second section is the study of the age's background before the ending time.
