A Study Of Strategies In C-E Diplomatic Consecutive Interpretation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the increasingly frequent international exchanges,diplomatic interpretation,as a cross-cultural communication activity,plays a bridging role in national political,economic and cultural communication nowadays.Meanwhile,the quality of diplomatic interpretation would have a great impact on China’s international image.Therefore,this thesis hopes that through the study of diplomatic interpretation strategies,not only interpreters could master the methods of interpretation,but also make more people understand the importance and preciseness of diplomatic interpretation,so as to provide the theoretical basis and practical guidance for interpreters.By using Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,this thesis makes an in-depth analysis of the interpreting datum of Premier Li Keqiang’ s Press Conference in 2020.By using the methods of analysis and synthesis,this thesis processes the on-site interpretation materials and summarizes the interpretation strategies and skills.First of all,this thesis aims at discuss the interpretation strategies of diplomatic interpretation from the lexical and syntactic aspects based on Skopos Theory,and to make a specific case study of the C-E consecutive interpretation of Premier Li Keqiang’ s Press Conference in 2020.Secondly,through the analysis of specific cases,this thesis expounds the cultural background differences between Chinese and English,which leads to the uniqueness of diplomatic interpretation,that is,distinctive political characteristics.This requires interpreters to pay attention to the rigor and efficiency of words in diplomatic interpretation so as to achieve win-win political goals.Finally,this thesis expounds the connotation of Skopos Theory in detail.As an important theory in functional translation theory,Skopos Theory regards the communicative purpose of the target language as the sole purpose of interpretation and considers the interpretation process and the selection of interpretation strategies from the perspective of the recipient of the target language.The thesis hopes that it could provide some guides to the practice of future interpretations through the analysis.
