The Application Of Conversion In The Translation Of English For Science And Technology

With the frequent communication between China and outside world as well as the rapid development of science and technology in modern society, the rising public concern about English for science and technology (EST) brings great demands to its translation. After a long term of practice, the translation of EST has formed its own criterion. The application of conversion has great significance in achieving these translation norms especially the smoothness and fluency in the translation ofEST.The introduction of this thesis describes the current situation of the study of conversion and introduces the main structure of the paper. The body is mainly about the application of conversion in the translation of English for Science and Technology (EST) by an analysis of EST's stylistic features and a brief account of conversion in terms of its definition and classification and an analysis of its practical significance on the translation of EST as well as the analysis of examples selected from the translation project Looking at Plants. The conclusion gives a summary of this thesis which includes the findings of this study and the significance of conversion for the translation of EST.
