Xuyi county, the south bank of Hongze Lake,is located in the west of Jiangsu Province, while Dongyang village is 35 kilometers to the east of Xuyi county. From August to November in 2013,a number of ancient tombs were found during the construction of the highway from Jinhu county to Maba of Xuyi county, which belong to the Dongyang Han tombs. There are nine tombs,M206 to M214,and a chariot-and-horse pit,K1.Because none of them were excavated before, the structure of wooden coffins were well-preserved,and about 500 pieces of grave goods including potteries, bronzes, iron implements, jades, lacquered wares were unearthed.Take the Han tomb M210 as an example, the paper makes a preliminary study on these tombs. The paper is divided into five parts. In the first chapter,it studies the Dongyang City Of Qin and Han Dynasties. The Dongyang City is comprised of the big city and the small one.Around hills, the west and the north of the big city are the burial area for the high-ranking nobles, while the east and the south are plains, the burial area for small and medium-sized officials and civilians. The M206 to M214 are located in the eastern highland of the big city.In the second chapter,it writes the excavation report of the Han tomb M210.M210 is a rectangular pit vertically hallowed in the earth which contains one coffin. It is equipped with total 26 pieces(sets)of burial items including potteries, bronzes, and lacquers of fine designs. In the third chapter,it classifies the potteries with archaeological typology method.According to the classification, the date of M210 might be in 127 to 70 BC.In the forth chapter,it makes a general analysis for the lacquer wares. On the basis of the Han tombs, which belong to the Wu Kingdom—Jiangdu Kingdom—Guangling County—Linhuai County,it paraphrases the inscriptions on the lacquer wares unearthed in these tombs.Through research, the author believes that the Dongyang region is one of the production sites of lacquer wares in the Han Dynasty,it has its own workers and workshops and the production is very prosperous. In the fifth chapter, there are inscriptions of "Yuan(?)" and"Yuan(?)" on the lacquer wares in M210 and M214 respectively,so the Junzhuang Han tombs are the Yuan Family Cemetery and the family name of"Yuan(?)" is evolved into "Yuan(?)" in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.Besides, since the origin of "Yuan(?)" is the Chen Kingdom, why it can be distributed in the Qiantang and Dongyang region, south of China.Refer to the views of others, the author thinks that it is associated with the migration to the south of China during the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty.Whether it is right or not only can be proved by more materials found in the future.
