In the tomb of the Marquis of Haihun in the han dynasty in nanchang,jiangxi province,there are 17 pieces of dragon-or-phoenix-shaped jade wares that used to decorate utensil.The paper makes a much more integrated analysis about them by the methods of archaeology,ethnology,historical philology,geology,arts and crafts from the five aspects of material,shap of implements,emblazonry?carving process and cultural connotation.Dragon shaped jade wares made of white Hetian jade and griotte,Are divided into two categories:circumferential surface decoration(Dragon Shaped Jade Decoration)and top decoration(Dragon Shaped Stone Decoration).Dragon Shaped Jade Decoration,which emblazonry with Characteristic from the late spring and Autumn period to the early Warring States Period were modified by Jade Cong.While Dragon Shaped Stone Decoration belongs to the Western Han Dynasty.On the surface there are mound marks,scratch marks,grind marks.Phoenix shaped jades made of white Hetian jade and griotte,Are divided into three categories:circumferential surface decoration(Cylindrical Shaped Jade Decoration),top decoration(Phoenix Shaped Stone Decoration)and side decoration(Curved Inlaid Jade Slice).These three groups can be combined into an utensil.Emblazonry has the Characteristic of the Middle Western Han Dynasty?There are scratch marks,grind marks and several types of mound marks on the surface.These pieces of jade can be used and ornamental,reflects that the jade articles in the Western Han Dynasty were more practical than the previous dynasties on one part,the longing for people to rise to the Immortals Jade craft in Western Han Dynasty has been greatly improved compared with the previous dynasties.From the tool marks,there were exquisite scratching tools,grinding tools and many mound tools at that time.Open policy,development of feudal economy and production have contributed to the progress to a large extent.
