Objective The clinical treatment of infantile enuresis is mainly behavioral intervention and drug therapy.Behavioral intervention can seriously affect the quality of life of children and parents, and may bring serious psychological problems to children. The synthetic antidiuretic hormone, such as deaminopressin,is commonly clinical medicine used for treating infantile enuresis. The price of deaminopressin is high, and the infantile enuresis is easy to relapse after treated by infantile enuresis.Moxibustion or massage on Chinese acupuncture points is also effective in treating children's enuresis.By bird-pecking moxibustion combined with desmopressin, this study observed and evaluated the treatment efficiency in the cure rate, effective rate, the number of waking times, recurrence rate, major symptoms and secondary symptoms of Chinese Medicine. The aims of this study is to explore the short-term and long-term effects of bird-pecking moxibustion combined with desmopressin acetate in treatment of children with enuresis,to identify whether it is better than that of single using desmopressin in increasing cure rate and decreasing relapse, and to provide theoretical basis for clinical treatment of pediatric enuresis. Methods The diagnostic criteria of primary nocturia was in accordence with The classification of mental and behavioral disorder in 10 to international classification of diseases(ICD-10).The Chinese Medicine calssification was in accordence with The journal of pediatrics of traditional Chinese medicine(sixth edition, wang Shou Chuan).Total of 124 cases with infantile enuresis were randomly divided into 2 groups: 62 cases in control group(single desmopressin acetate treatment);62 cases in combined treatment group(birdpecking moxibustion combined with desmopressin acetate). The children were treated for 6 months to compare the efficiency and cure rate. Then the children were followed-up for 3 months after the treatment.By the questionnaire survey, the parameters was observed including sleep monitoring, main symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine such as nocturnal enuresis times, urine volume, depth of sleep, attention in remission and relapse rate. The secondary symptoms includes: daytime frequency of urination, complexion, diet, mental state and tongue fur.The data was analyzed by SPSS19.0 statistical software. The contrast curative effects before and after treatment of the two groups were controlled by rank and inspection. The contrast between two groups was compared by t test.P<0.05 indicates statistical significance. The research process follows the laws of ethics and obtained consent from parents and the informed consent was signed.Result The effective rate in combined treatment group was 72.88%,higher than that in control group of 46.67% after the end of treatment. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The cure rate in combined treatment group was 34.90%,significantly better than that of 18.33% in control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In terms of the number of awakening times at night,it was 4.45 ±1.21 times/hour in the combined treatment group, and it was 3.90±1.03 times/hour in control group. The difference between the two groups was significant(P< 0.05).The efficiency rate of waking times in combined treatment group was 79.30%,significantly better than that of 59.20% in control group(P<0.05).In the improvement of TCM syndrome, the total score in treatment group was 11.37±2.36,significantly better than that of 17.15±2.23 in control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).In 3 months after ending of treatment, the recurrence rate in treatment group was 10.12%,significantly lower than that of 43.33% in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions The total efficiency rate, cure rate, sleep awakenings of children with primary nocturnal enuresis in the treatment of Birdpecking moxibustion combined with desmopressin were increased higher than that in the treatment of single application of desmopressin acetate.Meanwhile the symptoms of traditional Chinese Medicine and recurrence rate were reduced remarkable, suggesting that the clinical application value of Bird pecking moxibustion combined with desmopressin acetate has the advantages compared with the single medication. The way of Bird pecking moxibustion is easy,no adverse reactions and good compliance for children. Therefore,it can be widely used in clinical practice for treatment of children nocturnal enuresis.
