Objective:To investigate the significance of ?-catenin and APC protein in the process of development in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma by detection the expression of ?-catenin and APC protein in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma, borderline serous cystadenoma, serous cystadenoma and normal ovarian tissues. Methods:Immunohistochemical EnVision method was used to detect the expression of ?-catenin and APC in 50 cases of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma,46 cases of borderline serous cystadenoma,44 cases of serous cystadenoma, and 24 cases of normal ovarian tissues.164 cases of ovarian tumor tissue specimens were collected from January 2010 to January 2016 with 11 cases,7 cases,17 cases and 15 cases from FIGO stage ? to stage IV respectively and 15 cases,8 cases,27 cases in different pathological grading levels from G1 to G3 respectively in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma.Results:1.The positive rate of ?-catenin in normal ovarian tissues, serous cystadenoma, borderline serous cystadenoma and serous cystadenocarcinoma were 83.3%%,68.2%,45.7% and 34.0% respectively.Compared with normal ovarian tissue and ovarian serous cystadenoma, the expression of ?-catenin in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma were decreased obviously and were statistically significant(P all < 0.05).While no significant difference between normal ovarian tissues and serous cystadenoma, between serous cystadenoma and borderline serous cystadenoma, between borderline serous cystadenoma and serous cystadenocarcinoma were found(P all> 0.05).2.The expression of ?-catenin was not statistically different between different age groups in 50 cases of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma(P > 0.05).The ?-catenin positive expression rate in FIGO stage I/II and III/IV were 72.2% and 12.5%,the result was statistically different(P<0.05).Also the ?-catenin positive expression rate in different pathological grading G1,G2 and G3 were 73.3%,50.0% and 7.4% respectively, the result was statistically different(P < 0.05).3.The positive rate of APC in normal ovarian tissues, serous cystadenoma, borderline serous cystadenoma and serous cystadenocarcinoma were 83.3%%,59.1%,43.5% and 36.0% respectively.Compared with normal ovarian tissue and ovarian serous cystadenoma, the expression of APC in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma were decreased obviously and were statistically significant(P all < 0.05).While no significant difference between normal ovarian tissues and serous cystadenoma, between serous cystadenoma and borderline serous cystadenoma, between borderline serous cystadenoma and serous cystadenocarcinoma were found(P all> 0.05).4.The expression of APC was not statistically different between different age groups in 50 cases of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma(P > 0.05).The APC positive expression rate in FIGO stage I/II and III/IV were 72.2% and 15.6%,the result was statistically different(P<0.05).Also the APC positive expression rate in different pathological grading G1,G2 and G3 were 80.0%,50.0% and 7.4% respectively, the result was statistically different(P < 0.05).Conclusions:The expression of ?-catenin and APC were significantly lower in the late stage and poorly differentiated ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma. As important factors in Wnt signaling pathways,?-catenin and APC may play an important role both in the occurrence and development of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma. The joint detection of ?-catenin and APC may have certain clinical significance in judging the prognosis of ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma.
