The Efficacy And Safety Of Morinda Officinalis Oligose Capsule In The Treatment Of Functional Dyspepsia Accompanied By Mild-to-moderate Depression

Objestive:To observe the clinical efficacy and safety in the treatment of functional dyspepsia(FD)accompanied by mild-to-moderate depression,and to investigate the possible mechanism underlying.Method:In the randomized double study,120 cases of FD accompanied by mild-to-moderate depression were randomly assigned into three groups.The patients were treated with morinda officinalis oligose capsule in the trial group,or escitalopram in the control group or placebo in the placebo group for 6 weeks.Before and after the treatment,the depression symptom score of the Hamilton Depression Scale-17(HAMD17),the total score of the Gastrointestinal Symptom Score(GIS)and the 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)content in the plasma were compared among the three group.Results:Compared with placebo group,the decrease of HAMD17 scores were much more obvious in control and trial group,while there is no difference between the latter two groups;in addition,the changes of GIS scores in control and trial group were also more remarkable,accompanied with significant 5-HT content changes.The adverse reaction rates of the patients in trail?control and placebo group were 16.67%?22.50% and 21.88%,respectively,and no significant difference were noted.Conclusion: Morinda officinalis oligose capsule effectively ameliorated the depression and gastro-intestinal symptoms in FD patients accompanied by mild-to-moderate depression with slight adverse reaction,which is comparable with escitalopram.Plus,the improvement of the symptoms were closely related to the decrease of plasm 5-HT levels,however,further studies are needed to explore the role of 5-HT in the treatment of morinda officinalis oligose capsule as an effective antidepressant.
