The Investigation And Analysis Of Aged Care Workers' Core Competence In Ningbo

ObjectiveThis study investigated 433 aged care workers who worked in the nursing home more than 1 year,semi-structured interviewed to the people who management of pension institutions work more than 5 years,aged care worker who worked in the nursing home more than 5 years,to understand their core competence status quo and to analyze the influencing factors.Provide recommendations for nursing staff training,provide suggestions for optimization of the nursing staff of the nursing home and distribution,so as to improve the overall quality of aged care workers,conducive to the promotion of social welfare and promote the development of nursing industry.MethodsThis study used descriptive study which belonged to the non-experimental study in quantitative research,combined with the qualitative method to collect and analyze the data.Quantitative research was using the Geriatric Nursing Competency Inventory,GNCI,investigated the core competence of 433 aged care workers,also collected their demographic data.Survey data was input SPSS19.0 statistical software for analysis.Described by proportion of aged care workers in general information.Using the mean and standard deviation to describe the aged care worker of core competence scores.Using independent samples t test,one-way ANOVA,stepwise multiple regression analysis to describe the factors influencing the aged care workers' core competence.Using semi-structured interviews to 15 senior aged care workers and 10 pension institutions managers,summarizing and refining core competence of the aged care worker's need.ResultsReliability and validity of GNCI in the aged care worker were analyzed by confirmatory factor to verify the hypothesis of CFA model and observation data adaptation,each factor of path coefficient was 0.34~0.75,in P < 0.05 significant level,the overall internal consistency coefficient was 0.942.The aged care workers in Ningbo was older,more than 40 years was 389 people,accounting for 89.8%;predominantly female,was 387,accounting for 89.4%;cultural degree was mainly in the middle and below,was 303,accounting for 70%;the aged care workers who worked more than 1 year was 386,accounting for 89.1%;the length of employment mainly concentrated in the following 5 years,was 287,accounting for 66.3%;all involved in the investigation of the aged care workers were trained.The aged care workers' average score was 2.096±0.706,in the middle level,indicating that the core competence of the aged care workers in Ningbo was not very ideal,there was a big room for improvement.The scores from high to low is: interpersonal relationship,legal and ethical quality,leadership,professional development and personal development,clinical nursing ability,education and guidance,critical thinking and scientific research ability.Different cultural degree,Nursing member certificate,the length of employment,the core competence scores was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Through multiple stepwise regression analysis,the main factors influencing the core competence were cultural degree and nursing member certificates.The core competence of the aged care workers should also include the ability to take care of life,ease the emotional self adjustment ability,basic rescue ability,effective communication skills,service etiquette,occupation protection.ConclusionThe GNCI was applied to the aged care worker,which has good structure validity and reliability.The core competence of aged care workers in Ningbo was in the middle level,there was a big room for improvement.The influence factors on the aged care workers' core competence were cultural degree,nursing member certificate,the length of employment.The main factors were the cultural degree and nursing member certificates.The core competence of the aged care workers should also include the ability to take care of life,ease the emotional self adjustment ability,basic rescue ability,effective communication skills,service etiquette,occupation protection.
