Objective:To investigate the clinical potency and safety of the Fo Shou Ding Tong Decoction(FSDTD)in the therapy of the patients with migraine and to provide some supportive data and basis for the clinical popularization and utilization of the FSDTD.Methods:The 60 cases of patients with migraine, collected from the outpatient department of encephalopathy of the Gansu Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)Hospital from December 2015 to December 2016,were randomly divided into two groups, which were the therapeutic group(30 cases)and the control group(30 cases)..The therapeutic group took the FSDTD while the control group was given the Tou Tong N ing Capsule. All patients were treated for four consecutive weeks as a therapy period. The TCM syndrome scores and headache symptom scores of two groups were assessed to determine the treatment efficacy after a therapeutic course, and finally the conclusions were drawn. Results:Considering that 1 case in the therapeutic group and 2 cases in the control group quitted therapy,29 patients of the former group and 27 patients of the latter group attended this clinical trial in the end.(1)Comparison with two groups of patients by the efficacy of TCM syndrome was performed and results were showed as follows. In the therapeutic group,2 cases were cured thoroughly,15 cases were markedly effective,11 cases were effective,1 case was no efficacy, and the total effective rate was 96.55%,while for the control group, the corresponding values are 1,5,17,5 and 82.14% respectively. The statistical analysis shows that the difference between two groups was significant(P < 0.05).(2)Comparison with two groups of patients by the efficacy of headache symptoms: In the therapeutic group,2 cases were cured thoroughly,10 cases were markedly effective,16 cases were effective,1 case was no effective and the total effective rate of 96.55%,while for the control group, the corresponding values were 1,2,22,3 and 82.29% respectively. The statistical analysis shows that the difference between two groups was significant(P < 0.05).(3)Compared with the patients before therapy, the episodes frequency, severity degree, duration period of migraine and concomitant symptoms decreased significantly for the patients after therapy(P < 0.05).The episodes frequency, severity degree and concomitant symptoms of migraine between two groups were compared before and after the therapy, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05)While the difference in the duration period of two groups was no statistically significant(P>0.05)through comparison.(4)Safety analysis: all patients' physiological and biochemical indexes, including the routine blood, urine and stool, electrocardiogram, and liver and kidney function were normal and no adverse drug reactions was observed during the trial. Conclusion:The FSDTD is a safe and effective TCM prescription for the patients with migraine and desirable to popularize and utilize in clinical therapy.
