The Clinical Research Of "Piriformis Ten-point Needling" In Treating Piriformis Syndrome

Objectives The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical effect of the “piriformis ten-point needling” to the routine acupuncture in treating piriformis syndrome,and then evaluating the clinical efficacy of the “piriformis ten-point needling” scientifically and objectively,which can provide a safe and effective new method in treating piriformis syndrome through acupuncture.Methods Random allocation was taken to divide 60 cases of piriformis syndrome,who were accorded with the inclusive criteria of piriformis syndrome,into two groups averagely: treatment group and control group,each group was 30 cases.The treatment group was given the “piriformis ten-point needling” therapy,which were treated once a day,10 days for a course of treatment,there were 2 days rest between courses,treatment includes 3 courses.The control group was given the routine acupuncture and its therapy time arrangement was the same with the treatment group.Results 1 The comparison of clinical effect: there were 9 cases being cured,15 cases having markedly effect,4 effective cases,2 ineffective cases in the treatment group.The total effective rate was 93.33%;There were 4 cases being cured,13 cases having markedly effect,8 effective cases,5 ineffective cases in the control group.The total effective rate was 83.33%.There was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),the curative effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group obviously;2 The comparison of electromyography parameters: two groups had significant difference in MCV,latency,and amplitude before and after therapy(P<0.01),the differences between two groups was statistically significant after therapy(P<0.05);3 The comparison of subjective experiences: the differences in treatment group before and after therapy in patients with hip joint function scores,total symptom scores and VAS were statistically significant(P<0.01),the differences between two groups after therapy was statistically significant(P<0.05);4 The comparison of immediate analgesic effects: the immediate efficiency of the treatment group was 83.33%,higher than 40.03% in the control group,two groups existed significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusions 1 The clinical effect of “piriformis ten-point needling” is remarkable in treating piriformis syndrome,which is better than routine acupuncture.2 The “piriformis ten-point needling” can relieve pain of buttocks and leg rapidly,increase the MCV,shorter the latency,increase the amplitude,which produced a remarkable effect.The “piriformis ten-point needling” can improve the function of hip joint,ameliorate clinical symptoms effectively.3 The “piriformis ten-point needling” should be extended to clinic treatment because of the less adverse reaction,non-toxic side effect,secure efficient and convenient operation.
