Objective: To evaluate the effects of the intervention of cognitive-behavioral group counseling for elderly hypertension patients with anxiety symptoms, and to provide criteria for clinical application. Methods:In this randomized controlled trials,80 elderly hypertension patients with anxiety were included in the randomized controlled trial. The intervention group was given cognitive-behavioral group counseling for 8 weeks, while the control group without any intervention(the control group received the same therapy after the intervention group had completed the therapy).Participants in both groups completed a battery of measures including the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI),Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ),UCLA Loneliness Scale(UCLA)and Self-Esteem Scale(SES)for the two groups were measured before-test(pre-intervention),post-test(after intervention)and tracking test level(intervention after 1 month),STAI was used for follow-up at 2 weeks,4 weeks and 6 weeks of intervention, and the change of anxiety was evaluated. Results: 1.The repeated measures ANOVA showed that the main effect, the time effect and the interaction between time×grouping were statistically significant(P<0.05)in state anxiety inventory(SAI)scores and negative coping style scores. The trait anxiety inventory(TAI)scores and UCLA scores showed that the time effect were significant(P<0.05).2.The univariate repeated measurements ANOVA showed that the intervention group had significant lower scores on SAI after 6-week test,post-test,track-test compared with their scores on SAI at baseline(P<0.05).Post-test and track-test after the intervention, the negative coping style scores declined in the intervention group(P<0.05).While the control group negative coping scores difference before-test,post-test and track-test showed no statistically significant(P>0.05).In intervention group, there was no significant difference in the scores of TAI,positive coping style,UCLA and SES before and after intervention(P>0.05),whereas the scores of those in the control group did not show any significant reduction.3.Multiple variance analysis showed contrast with control group, the scores of SAI score and negative coping style were lower in the intervention group(P<0.05),whereas the scores of TAI,active coping style,UCLA and SES between the two group were no statistically significant(P>0.05).4.Independent-sample T test/two independent-sample rank test shows that the difference between before-test and post-test in the scores of SAI and negative coping style were statistically significant. The difference between post-test and track-test in the scores of SAI and negative coping style were statistically significant. Conclusion: 1.Cognitive behavior group counseling can significantly improve the anxiety of the intervention group, mainly reflected in the reduction of SAI score.2.Cognitive behavior group counseling can significantly improve the coping style of the intervention group, mainly reflected in the negative coping score decline.3.Cognitive behavior group counseling on the intervention group of positive coping and UCLA of the subjects have improved the trend, but the effect is not significant.4.The effect of cognitive behavior group counseling can last for one month. There was no difference between post-test and track-test in the the scores of SAI and negative coping style.
