Objective:To observe the clinical effect of CangMaBiyanTang(Cang Ma)for the treatment of allergic rhinitis in children. Methods:Total of 72 children with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group of 36 cases were in consumption of oral Cang Ma rhinitis decoction while the control group of 36 cases were given Nasonex(Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray)to relief nasal discomfort. The study was conducted for the families of 2 groups of children with nursing guidance and the duration was designed to 2 weeks as a course.Total effective rate, variation in symptoms and signs,TCM symptom score after 6 hours and 2 weeks of treatments respectively were taken as benchmarking index, together with the post-treatment follow-up on recurrence and effectiveness upon 3 months completion of a course of treatment.Result:1.The total effective rate of the treatment group was 50%while the control group was 67.6%respectively upon completion of 6 hours of treatment. The total effective rate of the treatment group was 85.3%while the control group was 91.2%respectively upon 2 weeks of treatment, and the P-values of total effective rate for both treatment group and the control group were statistically significant(P>0.05).2.With regard to the main symptom score:The P-values within the two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05)before treatment, after treatment of 6 hours and 2 weeks respectively. In terms of TCM syndrome score:both treatment and control groups were statistically significant(P<0.05)after 6 hours and 2 weeks of treatment respectively while there were significant differences between the two groups of TCM symptoms.3.The recurrence rate and effective rate of the treatment group was statistically significant(P<0.05)than that of the control group in post-treatment follow-up of 3 months upon completion of a course, and there was significant difference between the two groups.Conclusion:1.Cang Ma oral rhinitis decoction is equally effective as Nasonex(Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray)in the treatment of children allergic rhinitis.2.Cang Ma oral rhinitis decoction is slower response in the beginning stage relieving children allergic rhinitis symptoms yet more effective to improve the overall TCM syndrome than that of Nasonex(Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray)in treatment of children allergic rhinitis.3.Cang Ma oral rhinitis decoction is more effective in long-term for children with allergic rhinitis especially low recurrence rate and safe use benefits.
