ObjectivesTo explore the application mode of comprehensive design-oriented experiments in experiment teaching of Medical Nursing in higher vocational nursing students,so as to improve the professional technical capability as well as the independent learning ability, critical thinking ability and communication skills of higher vocational nursing students, and thus give reference to the improvement of comprehensive quality thereof and the cultivation of “application-oriented” talents.MethodsA total number of 311 nursing students from 4 teaching classes enrolled in fall of 2015 were chosen as research objects, with a total number of 150 nursing students from two classes as the intervention group, and a total number of 161 nursing students from the other two classes as the control group, which was determined by means of random lottery. Both groups were consistent with or similar to each other in terms of pre-test results of their learning conditions and other factors, with differences of no statistical significance(P>0.05).Both groups carried out experiment teaching after completing the fixed teaching content of Medical Nursing, with the control group based on traditional experiment teaching methods, and the intervention group adopting comprehensive design-oriented experiment teaching methods. The teaching quality was evaluated by OSCE assessment, independent learning ability scale, critical thinking ability scale and supportive communication scale before teaching(pre-test)and after teaching for one semester(post-test)respectively.Results(1)The post-test results of OSCE assessment, independent learning ability, critical thinking ability and supportive communication skills of both groups were better than the pre-test results thereof, with differences of statistical significance(P<0.05).(2)The post-test scores of the intervention group in nursing inquiry, nursing physical examination, case analysis, nursing measures, health education and OSCE assessment were(4.31±1.45),(8.19±2.33),(8.04±1.72),(11.04±2.59),(8.92±0.96)and(40.50±8.91)points respectively, all of which were higher than those of the control group, with differences of statistical significance(P<0.05).(3)The post-test scores of the intervention group in learning motivation, planning and implementation, self management, interpersonal communication and independent learning ability were(25.7±5.3),(25.9±4.8),(17.2±2.8),(18.0±2.5)and(86.8±23.5)points respectively, all of which were higher than those of the control group, with differences of statistical significance(P<0.05).(4)The post-test score of the intervention group in critical thinking ability was(80.06+17.19)points,which was statistically higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).(5)The post-test scores of the intervention group in guidance and counseling, provision of negative feedback, supportive communication and overall communication were(17.35±2.09),(24.25±4.18),(38.31±8.12)and(79.91±10.52)respectively,all of which were higher than those of the control group, with differences of statistical significance(P<0.05).ConclusionCompared with the traditional teaching methods, the application of comprehensive design-oriented experiments in Medical Nursing in higher vocational nursing students is able to improve the nursing practice skills thereof, help such students to improve their independent learning ability, develop their critical thinking ability, and enhance their communication skills.
