Objectives(1)To translate the English version of Diabetes Management Knowledge Assessment Tool(DMKAT)into Chinese, and to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of DMKAT among nurses;(2)To explore the effects of training mode of internal trainer which applied on the diabetic management knowledge training for the non-specialty nurses.MethodsTwo major phases were finished during the whole research: the first phase was translation of DMKAT,and the second phase was an quasi-experimental study of applying the training mode of internal trainer to non-specialty nurses in diabetic management knowledge training.(1)Phase one: After singed the agreement form of DMKAT,I have had the authorization of using this measurement tool.Based on the translation and back-retranslation procedure, the English version of DMKAT was translated and tested.A total of 400 non-specialty nurses were chosen as the formal investigation samples,SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 software was used to analyze the collected data.Using the homogeneity reliability to evaluate the internal consistency degree of this assessment tool;Using the content validity index(CVI)to compute the expert content validity; The cognitive questionnaire of diabetic knowledge and the nurses' autonomous learning ability rating scale were used to test the criterion validity. For the first parts of this tool-the self-assessment scale, using exploratory factor analysis(EFA)and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA)to test the structural validity of this scale.(2)Phase two: An quasi-experimental design was used.82 non-specialty nurses who got less than 60% scores of the two parts of DMKAT were randomly divided into two groups.42 nurses in the control group received diabetic management knowledge education in routine ways.Training Mode of internal trainer was applied on the diabetic management knowledge training for another 42 nurses who were divided into the intervention group. The scores of general self-efficacy and DMKAT of nurses were compared pretest and post-test(one month and three months). The nurse demographic questionnaire, the General Self-efficacy Scale and the chinese version of DMKAT were used for the instrument.Using the IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0software to do the data analysis. The statistic methods included descriptive statistical analysis,t-test,Chi-square analysis and the repetitive measurement deviation analysis.Results(1)Phase one: The Chinese version of DMKAT consisted of 2 subscales(32items): the self-assessment scale and diabetic knowledge questionnaire, every parts of this tool contained 16 items. For the self-assessment scale,The Cronbach's?coefficient was 0.939;The Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.883 and the test-retest reliability was 0.933;The content validity index was 0.99;three factors were ex-tracted by factor analysis, which could explain 68.652% of the total variance;and the results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that: ?2/df=2.841,RMSEA=0.035,GFI=0.928,CFI=0.919,IFI=0.916,the model fitting is good. For the diabetic knowledge questionnaire,The Cronbach's? coefficient was 0.696.The Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.603 and the test-retest reliability was 0.677.The content validity index was 0.97.(2)Phase two: 84 non-specialty nurses were selected and divided 2 groups(42nurses was in the control group,42 nurses was in the intervention group),they all completed this training. The results showed that:(1)There was statistical difference in nurses' general self-efficacy between two groups(F=4.335,P=0.040),the time effects(F=65.221,P=0.000),and there was interaction with the time effects and the intervention effects(F=31.430,P=0.000).(2)There was statistical difference in nurses' diabetic management knowledge level between two groups(F=36.767,P=0.000),the time effects(F=1743.244,P=0.000),and there was interaction with the time effects and the intervention effects(F=328.041,P=0.000).Conclusion(1)The Chinese version of DMKAT had good reliability and validity. It can be used as a valid tool to measure the level of diabetic management knowledge for the non-specialty nurses.(2)Training mode of internal trainer can enhance the general self-efficacy of the non-specialty nurses, improve the nurses' level of diabetic management knowledge. This result will apply a good foundation for the comprehensive management of patients with diabetes.
