Objective: The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the prosthetic effect of three cases in the restoration of tooth defect with CAD/CAM ceramic inlaycrowns and inlays. A better prosthetic method for largely damaged endodontically treated molars and food impacted teeth was seeking. The important factors and clinical points in the application of CEREC CAD/CAM were also discussed. Methods: 3 cases were presented in this paper, among which the first two were largely damaged endodontically treated molars restored using all ceramic inlaycrowns, while the last case for treating a food impacted tooth with ceramic inlay. Before restoration the situation of pulp and periapical tissues was tested. If it turned out to be pulpitis or apical periodontitis, root canal therapy or retreatment must be applied firstly. The procedure was as follows: shade-matching, teeth preparation,impression-taking, design and manufacture, try-in and bonding, occlusal adjustment and fine polishing. The prosthetic effect was evaluated after restoration. Results: The three cases restored with CAD/CAM ceramic inlaycrowns and inlays rated very highly in anatomic contour, marginal adaptation, steadiness, good contact, no food impaction, no postoperative sensitivity, achieving a favorable effect. Conclusions: With the innovation of software, hardware and the continuous improvement of milling materials, the CEREC CAD/CAM has made dental prothetic program more accurate and convenient.Inlaycrowns represent a conservative restorative alternative to full coverage crowns. Ceramic inlay can creat better contacting areas without food impaction.
