Objective:To study the effectiveness of proximal contacts in Class II cavity restorations with metal inlay and metal full crown, and provide the basis for oral prevention and treatment. Methods:264patients were investigated by both inquiry and clinical examination. Statistics was done with SPSS16.0. Screened14cases met the inclusion criteria from the survey back teeth adjacent the occlusal surface defects mainly vertical food impaction to repair with metal inlay;Screened10cases from the survey-based mixed impaction teeth level of food impaction and associated with individual tooth loss to repair it using metal full crown. The restoration contacts were clinically evaluated at baseline and the food impaction symptoms at1and3months recall. All patients were surveyed by questionnaires to investigate wearing comforts. Retentive force values, the value of bond retention force, food impaction improvement, marginal adaptation, gingival health status, degree of wear and fall off and so on from the repair parts before bonding to and evaluation. Results:According to the survey, the project found food impaction228patients.The prevalence rate of food impaction was83.33%, which reached the highest rate at91.11%in the40-59years group. There were no significant difference between sex and nation (P<0.05).Despite many factors, periodontitis played the main role in the incidence of food impaction. There were significant difference in nation (P<0.001).The impaction types were mainly hybrid and vertical impaction. The use of metal inlay results in higher rate of acceptable proximal contacts in composite restorations of Class Ⅱ cavity. They were all satisfied with the metal full crown after3months treatment. Conclusion:Food impaction was of larger prevalence, many factors and lower cure. The use of composite-resin-ball technique results in higher rate of composite est-orations of Class Ⅱ cavities and thus lower rate of food impaction. With good histocompatibility, the metal full crown has been proved to be well histocompatible, acceptable and effective for the patients who suffer from food impaction in the short term.
