Objective:To investigate clinical efficacy of recurrent patella dislocation through arthroscopy and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. Methods:From August 2012 to August 2015, 36 patients with recurrent patella dislocation were treated by lateral retinacular release and medial retinacular tightening plus medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in sports injury department of orthopedics and minimally invasive department of orthopedics of Affiliated Hospital Shan dong university of TCM. Among them, there were 11 males and 25 females, with a mean age of 24 years(range, 14~40 years) at the time of surgery. No patients accepted special surgical treatment and knee extrapolation fear test were positive before surgeon. We measured the Q-angle and TT-TG value conventionally before surgeon. According to international knee documentation committee(IKDC) scoring criteria, the subjective IKDC score was 46.12±8.98, and the Lysholm score was 54.69±14.81. 36 patients were treated by lateral retinacular release and medial retinacular tightening plus medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. All patients accepted regular rehabilitation following operation and were followed for 10 months in average(6 to 12 months) to learn about their recurrence and rehabilitation. Results:The patellar stability was restored in all patients and no recurrence of patellar dislocation was found within follow-up. All incisions healed by first intention without complication. The subjective IKDC score was 83.14±7.56 and the Lysholm knee score was 85.25±9.72, showing significant differences when compared with preoperative scores(P < 0.05).Conclusions:It is effective and minimally invasive to treat recurrent patellar dislocation by way of arthroscopic lateral retinacular release and medial retinacular tightening plus medial patellofemoral ligament recostruction.
