Clinical Observation On The Treatment Of Recurrent Patellar Dislocation With Reconstruction Of Medial Patellofemoral Ligament

Objective: The aim of this study was to demonstrate postoperative outcomes and return to regular physical and sports activities after patellar stabilization with medial patellofemoral ligament(MPFL)reconstruction.Methods: Analysis from January 2012 to April 2015,the 38 cases of patients with recurrent dislocation of the patella(knee)patients,15 cases of male,female 23 cases,all cases were first diagnosed with knee arthroscopy,semitendinosus tendon transplantation of double bundle reconstruction of medial patellofemoral ligament.Preoperative evaluation of the knee joint,the patella and the magnetic resonance imaging.The Kujala score was used to assess the preoperative and postoperative function of the knee joint,and the patient satisfaction was assessed according to the International Knee Documentation Committee(IKDC)score.Application of Tegner activity score in evaluation of physical activity level.Results: All patients were followed up for 2~4.75 years,with an average of 3.2 years.All follow-up data were significantly increased.The mean Kujala score increased from(65.6±4.9)to(92.7±2.5).Patient satisfaction,according to IKDC score from(43.7±4.2)to(91.4±3.2).The postoperative Tegner activity score was increased from(4.1±1.3)to(5.2±1.3),and was lower than that before patellar dislocation(6.1±1.6).There was no significant difference in Kujala score between male and female patients(P = 0.25).Patients who were actively involved in physical activity before surgery had 80.8% return to physical activity,and 57.7% returned to the same level of activity,and the 23.1% returned to a lower levelConclusion: MPFL reconstruction is a safe and effective treatment for patients with recurrent patellar dislocation,and allows most patients to return to regular physical activity and exercise after surgery.Although it can't completely reach the level of physical activity before dislocation,the level of physical activity after operation is significantly increased.
