Objective:To investigate the relationship between the level of serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaque in diabetic patients.Method:A total of 82 diabetic patients and 40 healthy people were chosen and carotid B-ultrasound were performed in them. The patients were divided into two groups according to carotid B-ultrasound results:plaque group(48 cases) and non plaque group(34 cases). All the subjects of general information and related biochemical indicators were collected. Simultaneously we need measure serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 concentrations. Results: ?Serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 level in diabetic patients group was lower than that in healthy people group{(12±5)ug/L VS (22±5)ug/L, P<0.01}, and Serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 level in diabetic with plaque group was obviously lower than that in diabetic with non plaque group{(8.3+1.4)ug/L VS (18.0+2.8) ug/L, P<0.01}.?Person correlation analysis found that age(r=0.60,P<0.01), smoking(r=0.16,P<0.05), body mass index(BMI) (r=0.43,P<0.05),systemic blood pressure (SBP) (r=0.50,P<0.05), HbAlc(r=0.45,P<0.05), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (r=0.32,P<0.05) were positively associated with carotid plaque formation, but with serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 levels showed a negative correlation(r=-0.55,P<0.01).;?Multivariate logistic regression revealed that age (OR=1.076,P=0.002<0.01),smoking(OR=3.852,P=0.015<0.05),BMI(OR=1.623,P=0.0 35<0.05),HbAlc(OR=1.295,P=0.021<0.05)), SBP(OR=1.642,P=0.025<0.05),LDL-C (OR=1.054,P=0.036<0.05)and 1,25(OH)2D3 (OR=0.986,P=0.001<0.01)are important risk factors the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaque in diabetic patients. under the correction factors.multiple regression analysis shows that the concentration of serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 is independently with the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaque. Conclusions:Serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 were inadequate in diabetic patients and were more likely to appear in the presence of the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaque in patients with diabetes. Age, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood sugar and 1,25 (OH) 2D3 is the important risk factor for the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaques, the correction of the above factors, the serum 1,25 (OH) 2D3 is associated with the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaques independently. While, whether adding active vitamin D can become a measure for diabetes with the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaques need to be further study.
