Objective: To observe the clinical effects of Shu-mu acupuncture on the treatment of urinary retention after stroke, designed to find a therapeutic method which has better clinical effect, high economic benefit, high operability and easy to popularize. Methods: In long-term clinical practice, Shu-mu acupuncture showed exact curative effects on the treatment of urinary retention after stroke. 60 stroke patients with urinary retention were randomly divided into control group(n=30) and treatment group(n=30). All patients were treated by basic treatment of stroke, including Mascular Amino Acids Peptides and Nucleosides for Injection, safflower yellow injection and aspirin enteric-coated tablets. The changes of blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipid were monitored in two groups. Patients in two groups also received symptomatic treatment, and to control risk factors. On this basis treatment, patients in control group were treated by oral pyridostigmine bromide tablets, took 60 mg 30 min after meal, 3 times daily. Patients in treatment group were treated by Shu-mu acupuncture therapy, acupoints included pang guang shu(BL 28), shen shu(BL 23), baliao(BL 31?BL 32?BL 33?BL 34), zhong ji(CV 3), Shi men(CV 5), Guanyuan(CV 4), 30 min each time, one time daily for 10 days, the interval between treatment courses was 1 d. According to the guidance of “Clinical guideline of new drugs for traditional Chinese medicine”, with the B-mode ultrasound scanner, the curative effects were observed and evaluated in two groups after four treatment courses(43 d).Results: According to traditional Chinese medicine therapeutic evaluation, the total effective rate in treatment group(96.67%) was superior to that in control group(80.00%),(P<0.05). According to modern therapeutic evaluation, the total effective rate in treatment group(96.67%) was superior to that in control group(80.00%),(P<0.05). The bladder function integral was decreased in two groups, and there were statistical difference on bladder function integral between before and after treatment in two groups(P<0.05). The decreased of bladder function integral in treatment group was superior to that in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion: Shu-mu acupuncture can significantly improve the clinical symptom of urinary retention after stroke, reduce bladder residual urine volume, has a better curative effect than simple medicine treatment, safe and effective, worth of clinical application.
