Clinical Application Of OMOM Capsule Endoscopy In86Cases

Objective:To investigate the diagnostic value of capsule endoscopy in patientswith gastrointestinal diseases of unknown causes, especially in the smallintestinal diseases,and guide the reasonable application of capsuleendoscopy.Methods:The OMOM capsule endoscopy was used in86patients?including34patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding,52patients withunexplained abdominal pain?chronic diarrhea?abdominal distension andunexplained emaciation?from Sep?2009to Dec.2013?Diagnoses by OMOMcapsule endoscopy were recorded and compared statistically?The clinicaldata were retrospectively analyzed.Results:1?Results of CE: Of the86patients?all completed the capsuleendoscopy with a success rate of100%,81were found to have lesions witha detection rate of94.2%,68were found to have intestinal lesions witha detection rate of79.1%.The positive detection rate of small boweldiseases was up to91.2%in the patients with obscure gas-trointestinalbleeding,most commonly in vascular malformation.71.2%for abdominal paingroup with Inflammation of the small intestine was frequent seen,andsignificant difference was found between2groups (P<0.05)?There wereno significant differences in the detection rate of small bowel diseases among the elderly group? and the middle-aged group ?85.2%VS84.6%?.However,no significant difference was found between the detectingrates of those with their bleeding stopped less than2weeks and thosehaving their bleeding stopped longer than2weeks.Metoclopramide?intramuscular injection?did not exerted effect on the small boweltransit time,but it can reduce the gas-tric transit time of the capsule.2?Transit condition of CE?The capsules were stayed in stomach in1.3min-333min(M42.50mi?? and in intestine in47min-543min(M284.00min)?3?The safety of CE:OMOM capsule endoscopyexhibited steady performance and clear images. Nobody felt uncomfor orhad complications during the processes. The electric power in OMOMcapsule generally satisfied the need for observing the whole length ofsmall intestine.All of the capsules were discharged successfully,nocapsules were blocked in cabined.Conclusions:The manipulation of capsule endoscopy is effective, safe and it isof important value in the diagnosis of small intestinaldiseases,especially for obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.
