At present,the pigeon industry in our country is developing rapidly,with the increasing demand of people on pigeon,the industry of pigeon becomes flourish and more attention are paid to efficient cultivation.As everyone knows that the light is crucial to the poultry,the artificial light is widely used in industry while the popularization is lack in pigeon breeding.The effect and mechanism of light on pigeon is still unclear.This study aimed at the effects of the different light regimes and monochromatic lights on the production performance of White King pigeons.This study will not only provide a reference for the comprehensive analysis of the impacts of light on pigeons,but also provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for the transformation of the traditional farming mode.1.This study aimed at the effects of the different light regimes on the production performance of pigeons,total of 81 pairs White King pigeons were selected,which were randomly divided into three groups(16L:8D,12L:12D,8L:16D),each treatment group was repeated 3 times and the intensity was about 20 lx.The results showed that the egg production of 16L:8D group was significantly increased(P<0.01)while the 8L:16D group was significantly decreased(P<0.01),compared with the 12L:12D group.The average egg weight of 8L:16D group was lower than that of 16L:8D group and 12L:12D group,respectively 1.34g and 1.05g,(P<0.05).The results of RIA showed that the concentrations of LH,FSH and E2 of female pigeons in 16L:8D group were higher than those in the other groups,the concentrations of hormones were lower in 8L:16D group,futhermore,the different light duration had no effect on the hormone level of the male pigeons.The results of RT-PCR showed that the expression levels of FSH and LH mRNA in pituitary were the highest,the 16L:8D group significantly increased the expression of FSH gene in the pituitary and ovary(P<0.05).LH mRNA in different tissues fluctuate 16L:8D significantly increased the expression level of LH gene(P<0.05).While 8L:16D significantly decreased the expression of LH mRNA in different tissues(P<0.05).Overall,the light regime of 16L:8D group could significantly increase the egg production and improve the production performance of White King pigeon.2.This study aimed at the effects of the monochromatic lights on the reproduction performance and the body weight gain of pigeons,total of 60 pairs White King pigeons were selected,which were randomly divided into four groups(Red,Green,Purple,White),each treatment group was repeated 3 times and the light regime of 16 h monochromatic lights were carried out with the intensity of 20 lx.The results showed that red light could effectively increase the egg production(P<0.05),while the egg production decreased significantly in the purple light group(P<0.05).However,Compared with the white light,there was a higher rate of broken egg in the red light group(P<0.05).Compared with the white light,the green light could significantly increase the body weight of 21-day-old squabs(P<0.05),but the monochromatic light had no effect on body weight of 25-day-old squabs(P>0.05).The results of RIA showed that the red light and the green light could improve the concentrations of FSH,LH and E2 and the hormone levels were significantly decreased in the purple light group(P<0.05),there was no significant difference on the level of PRL among each group(P>0.05).Futhermore,the monochromatic light had no effect on the hormone concentrations of the male pigeons.The results of RT-PCR showed that the expression levels of FSH and LH mRNA in pituitary were the highest,while the FSHR,LHR,ER and AR mRNA were highly expressed in the gonads.The red light significantly increased the expressions of FSH and LH mRNA in the pituitary(P<0.05),while the purple light had the opposite effect.The expression of FSHR and LHR mRNA were higher in red light and white light,while the purple light reduced the expression of FSHR and LHR mRNA in the gonad(P<0.05).The red light and the green light could promote the expression of ER mRNA in ovary(P<0.05),while the expression of AR mRNA in testis had no significant difference(P>0.05).In summary,compared with the white light,the red light can effectively improve the egg production of pigeons,the green light can promote the body weight of 21-day-old squabs.
