| Moringa oleifera is a kind of edible functional plant,with rich nutrients and various bioactive components,besides,it also has many good properties such asstrong adaptability,drought tolerance and fast growth and so on.Moringa oleifera can be appllied to food,medicine,feed,industry and other areas.The objective of this study was to explorethe effects of Moringa oleifera on antioxidant and immunity function in dairy cows.Firstly,explore the effects of Moringa oleifera leaves on the antioxidant and immunity in rats;Then,based on the firstexpriment,explored the effects of Moringa oleiferaleaves and peduncles on antioxidant,immune indexes and milk somatic cell counts in dairy cows as a roughage.The expriment was divided into the following two parts:Experiment 1: Effects of Moringa oleifera leaves on growth performance,antioxidant and immunity function of blood and liver in Sprague Dawley ratsForty male Sprague Dawley rats with near weight were randomly allocated to five groups.The rats in the five experimental groups were administered 0(normal control),0.45,0.9,1.8 and 3.6 g/kg body weight Moringa oleifera leaves powder via gavage.The preliminary feeding period lasted for 3 days,then all groups were treated by gavage for 21 consecutive days.Rats were fasted for 12 h and were subsequently sacrificed by exsanguination.The organ weights of rats were weighted.Antioxidant and immunity indexes in all the samples were measured.The results showed that the body weight of experiment group was significantly higher than control group at the fifth day after gavaged(P<0.05),while there was no significanty difference on body weight and average daily gain later(P>0.05).Moringa oleifera leaves powder efficiently decreased the contents of cholesterol(CHOL),triglyceride(TG),blood urea nitrogen(BUN)and creatinine(CREA)in rat serum(P<0.05).And the blood urea nitrogen(BUN)and creatinine(CREA)in serun showed a linear decrease with the supplementation of Moringa oleifera leaves;improved the contents of catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)and decreased the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA)in the serum and liver of rats(P<0.05);increased serum levels of immunoglobulins A and G(Ig A,Ig G);increased the concentration of interleukin-10(IL-10)in the serum and liver of rats,and showed a linear increase with the supplementation of Moringa oleifera leaves;decreased the concentration of proinflammatory factor(IL-1β,IL-6)in the serum and interleukin-17(IL-17)in the liver(P<0.05).In conclusion,Moringa oleifera leaves powder had no effect on growth performance,but improved blood metabolism,decreased the levels of blood lipid,urea nitrogen and creatinine in the serum,increased antioxidant and immunity function of blood and liver in Sprague Dawley rats and that a dosage of 0.9~1.8 g/kg/d is sufficiently effective.Experiment 2: Effects of Moringa oleifera leaves and peduncles on blood biochemical indexes,antioxidant,immune function of blood and milk somatic cell countsin dairy cowsEight healthy and multiparous Holstein cows(same or similar in body weight,calving period and milk yield,and postpartum 100~150 d)were allocated to two groups and make a crossover trail.There were two treatments(A and B)in this study,A was control group(fed with basal ration),and B was test group(fed with ration which supplement of Moringa oleifera).There were two periods in this experiment,and each period had 15 days of adjustment period and 3 days of trail period.Blood and milk samples were collected and feed intake,milk yield were recorded in trail period.The results showed as follows: The contents of cholesterol(CHOL)and triglyceride(TG)in plasma of B group significantly lower than A group(P<0.05),and the contents of alkaline phosphatase(ALP)and non-esterified fatty acid(NEFA)in B group had a tendency to decrease(0.05≤P<0.10);Moringa oleifera not only improved total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)and inhibition of hydroxyl radical capacity in plasma but also decreased the contents of malonaldehyde(MDA)in plasma significantly(P<0.05),increased the contents of immunoglobulin G(Ig G)(P<0.05).Compared with A group,the dry matter intake(DMI)in B group significantly increased(P<0.05),and the milk yield had a tendency to rise(0.05≤P<0.10),the somatic cell counts(SCC)in milk had a tendency to decrease(0.05≤P<0.10);In conclusion,Moringa oleiferahad a certain potential in improving the cows on blood biochemical indexes,antioxidant activity and immune function,decreased the somatic cell counts in milk.All in all,Moringa oleiferaleaves had a certain antioxidant and immune function,couldimprove the animal body’s antioxidant functionand immunity.Moringa oleiferafed daiy cows as a roughage,not only met the nutritional needs,but alsoimproved the antioxidant and immunity of dairy cows,and could be applied to production practice of dairy cows as a high quality roughage. |
