In recent years, many historical blocks in Chinese cities have been lacking effective maintenance and renewal for a long time.It is difficult to maintain the traditional style of the blocks. How to combine the protection, development, and utilization into a combination is related to the inheritance and de-velopment of the urban context. The reconstruction of historic districts, deepening the construction of a high-quality public spaces with traditional features, can generate new forces to activate the city. This kind of example is also not uncommon, the rebirth of Nirvana in Taikoo Li,Chengdu, and the splen-dor of Hangzhou’s Southern Song Dynasty’s imperial street have set a good example for us.For ar-chitects,this is a challenge, but it is also an opportunity. My thesis is the planning and transformation design of the North Street Block A located in Hutang Old Street,Wujin District,Changzhou.Hutang Old Street is centered on Hutang Bridge, which is located above Datong River. The design is based on North Street. The A block is selected to deepen the construction of a rich variety of high quality public sapce with traditional features. As a designer,I want to explore the relationship between the site and its surroundings,to solve the spatial and the type of Operation distributional relationship between the individual building blocks in the site. The appro-priate structure and materials will be used to solve the needs of the transformation and space renova-tion of the old block. It is hoped that through design methods and on the premise of fully analyzing the problems,A Block will be built to create a vibrancy zone that is based on experiential retail busi-ness in harmony with surrounding sites.
