A Historical Study Of Stores Form And Streets Space In Dongjing In The North-Song Dynasty

During the Tang and Song dynasties,great changes had taken place in various fields of Chinese society.The graded Fang-Shi system were replaced by the Jie-Shi system which was more open and free.The Fang-Walls were demolished while the streets became important public spaces in the city.There were broader and more public space for commercial,social and cultural activities.The scroll,Qing Ming Shang He Tu,(also known as Along the River During the Qingming Festival)drew by Zhang Zeduan,described the busy shipping,vibrant streets and affluent market life of the Northern Song Dynasty,which provides an important image information for the author to study on the architectural form and urban space at the time.The article first focuses on the functional characteristics of the market displayed by the scroll.According to the different business attributes,the author divides the shop-buildings into restaurants,stores,services,sales and hand workshops.Based on Yin Zao Fa Shi and other related ancient books,the composition of various types of commercial buildings are analyzed and summarized the distribution of various types of shops and their characteristics.Secondly,the article focuses on the street space characteristics showed by the scroll.This paper creatively quotes the research theory of modern street space and makes a comprehensive analysis of the unique space characteristics of the streets showed by the scroll.Finally,the author summarizes the urban growing characteristics of Dongjing in the Northern Song Dynasty,and argues that the coexistence of openness,complexity,publicity and commerciality is the evolving characteristic of the urban architecture and street space of Dongjing in the Northern Song Dynasty."Commercial Street" form emerges in the Northern Song Dynasty and lasts to the present.Its original linear development model,propaganda form of multi-class commercial advertising and building of brand awareness of the old,still have a strong practical significance and reference function in modern business.
