The cities have been in face of the trend of impersonality and homogenization under the background of the grand urbanization. Meanwhile, with the improving living standards, people have got stronger feelings for pursuit of spiritual life and tendencies of characteristic consumption and theme shopping. Furthermore, traditional culture possesses deep historical accumulation and broad public basis, which could generate senses of belonging and security. Therefore, the three mentioned social background gave rise to the traditional commercial streets with profound regional cultural characteristics that have become the preference for traveling, shopping and entertaining.Traditional commercial streets are located in central area of a city, possessing advantage of good transport, and normally, the scale of a commercial street is not large enough for the high-strength exploitation, which makes convenience for operation and development. Also, with distinctive regional cultural features, traditional commercial streets are of deep historic and cultural meanings that can arouse people’s feelings of nostalgia and belonging, which contribute to improving the image of a city. However, with the over-seeking of economic benefits and rapid developing speed, constructions of many traditional commercial streets are lack of theoretical and practical guidance, neglecting elements as local culture and society and blind imitating, all result in the lack of cultural connotation of commercial streets. Consequently, this paper, by using the case of Suilai Town in Shihezi City whose plan is an imitation of Ming and Qing Dynasties’ food culture business streets, conducts the research of design methods on such cases, hoping to provide references on construction to the projects like Suilai Town.Project Shihezi “Suilaiyi” mainly functioned as an experience center for cultural food and entertainment, and it was constructed in the situation of regional economic development and national unity in Xinjiang Province and combined with local historic and cultural status. Through designs in spacial organization and conformation environment, this project embodied the traditional civil cultural atmosphere of Ming and Qing Dynasties and expressed the theme of dynamic spacial design. This article proposes the design concept of “touring&viewing” by the analysis on features of traditional business streets as well as the expression of poetic imagery from landscape paintings. Creating architectural space, form and environment with the acknowledgment on space of “touring”, “viewing” and “feeling” and with its expression.“Touring” embodies the space-time experience when walking between spatial sequences,“viewing” focuses on the experience of visual sense, including designs of the whole pattern and details, while “feeling” refers to senses for multi-dimension of streets, which enhancescommercial atmosphere and spacial activity. It finally creates a natural false and perfect imitation of Ming-Qing cultural food commercial street through spacial expression above. This structural design method of general orientation, partial expression and detail presentation is manifested as a structural layer of system- subsystem-elements, is capable of the overall control of design ideas on business streets, and, of providing guidance to similar projects.
