"Urban Acupuncture"-Based Micro Renewal Research On Blocks In Ancient Cities

Since the adoption of reform and opening-up policy,massive rapidness development is reduced contradiction between laggard physical environment and modern development demand in blocks in ancient cities,to blocks of traditional style and caused some damage.At the same time,it is due to the historical and cultural heritage protection in the blocks of rigid request makes its development by a certain amount of resistance,which makes blocks in ancient cities confronted with dual pressure from protection and development.In recent dozens of years,blocks in ancient cities have undergone a tough exploration process from large-scale demolishing and rebuilding to “museum-style” static protection,resulting in damage in traditional historic and cultural landscape and a development standstill.At present,China is under a transformation phase of urban renewal.Experts and scholars make rethinks about previous preservation and renovation experience and set forward a new gradual and small-scale renewal way integrating protection and development.They try to conduct micro renovation in the form of “urban acupuncture” and “urban catalyst” so as to cause a larger-range influence,which provides new opportunity for the change of renewal ways in blocks in ancient cities.In the thesis,the author tries to conduct micro renewal on blocks in ancient cities in the way of “urban acupuncture”,aiming to provide a new thought for the renewal of blocks in ancient cities.Basic research framework is constructed according to the “question-solution-empirical evidence” system.At first,the author combines two research methods of literature review and case analysis and masters the latest dynamics of related researches and practices at home and abroad,with the purpose to make breakthroughs specific to defects in design method.In addition,based on question analysis on the renewal process of blocks in ancient cities,the author concludes future development trend and introduces the “urban acupuncture”-based micro renewal concept followed by discussing the feasibility of the concept in blocks in ancient cities from two targets: demand satisfaction and method consistence.Also,“urban acupuncture”-based micro renewal system is constructed coupled with detailed analysis in five renewal processes of basic research,structured design,acupuncture point selection and acupuncture point design.At last,the feasibility of the system is verified in the urban design projects of Block No.7,8,9inthe Ancient City of Suzhou in line with some supplementation so as to improve its general applicability.The “urban acupuncture”-based micro renewal system constructed in the thesis is not the ultimately static renewal system.Thus it is necessary to adjust its application according to real situations and keep improving the system during continuous practices.
