Historic district,an important part of the city's cultural heritages,has registered the changes and development of the city's history and culture.It represents a significant part of a city.Boasting prominent status,function and special value,historic district proves to be irreplaceable in a city.As a result,effective protection and necessary renovation must be in place so as to achieve sustainable development,revive the district and carry on the culture of the city.As an important part of historic district,public facilities feature consistently with the overall environment of the district.Their function,shape,style and appearance play a decisive role in displaying the overall landscape of historic district.As the role of historic district is gradually recognized and it is value constantly achieved,public facilities are becoming more and more important in historic district.With public facilities and other environmental components available in district,people can enjoy a pleasant public space in the city.From the perspective of artistic design,this thesis will put forward some principles in designing public facilities in historic district through combing theories with practices.Meanwhile,it will explore artistic design methods suitable for modern life and conducive to the protection of public facilities in historic districts.Being people-oriented,such methods are designed to satisfy basic needs,reflect the features of historic districts and manifest the uniqueness of public facilities in historic district.As a result,on one hand,the image of the city can be boosted by conveying cultural philosophy and creating a harmonious and comfortable environment,on the other hand,the design methods can serve as guidance for the protection and renovation of historic districts and for the inheritance of and reference to local culture.
