The Relationship Between The Traditional Village Water System And Architectural Pattern In The South Of Hunan Province

Traditional village is an important carrier of social civilization.So far as the study of traditional local-style dwelling houses,what comes first in people’s mind includes the horsehead walls of Huizhou area,courtyard houses of north China and so on.While in Hunan province,researches on traditional village mainly concentrate on Xiangxi minority areas.Very few researchers conduct their studies with an eye to these in southern Hunna region,especially when it comes to the overall planning of traditional villages and the relationship construction and hydrological environment.Southern Hunan is a specific geographical area with a large number of mountainous hills and a dense population.A strong cultural atmosphere and family value can be found there.Ancients in southern Hunan province attach great importance to the drainage system,or we can even say they are living for water.They have a close relationship with water.Therefore,people own perfect village water system management skills.This study targets on the traditional villages and drainage in the southern Hunnan province on the basis of a large number of field surveys.Firstly,based on the study of domestic and oversea literature review and field investigation,the relationship between water system and traditional village is discussed.Furthermore,the relationship between water system and traditional village site selection as well as the functional influence of water system on traditional village are summarized.Secondly,combined with existing traditional villages with preserved integrity,this study aims to analyze the characteristics of the water system and the layout of the villages as well as the characteristics of the nozzle space.Through chart analysis,the paper summarizes the influence of different types of water systems on the layout of traditional villages and the location and elements of traditional village water outlet.Finally,the paper summarizes the manifestations of water culture and water belief,and analyzes the impacts of water resources on human beings from the cultural perspective.Combined with the value of traditional villages,this paper analyzes the main features of traditional villages in southern Hunan.Meanwhile,it analyzes the problems existing in traditional villages and evaluates their current situation so as to find corresponding solution and countermeasures for the development of traditional villages.By doing so,it enables people to inherit the traditional villages and find a way to adapt to modern urban construction and township planning.During the research,distinct features can be found in traditional villages in southern Hunan area because of its regional features,architectural form,village planning and humanistic value.It reflects great wisdom of its ancients and harmony concept for natural environment both from the perspective of protection value and reference significance.It can be said that traditional villages and water in southern Hunan region have a long and close relationship,which results in a unique water culture form.Water resources in southern Hunan spawned a rich and colorful traditional culture,and in return,traditional villages there highlight a unique charm of water culture.
