Research On Organization Mode And Capacity Of Modern Streetcar System

As a type of safe,fast,reliable,low-carbon and medium-capacity public transport mode,modern streetcar has become the choice of policy makers and planners in many cities.Faced with the fluctuation of modern streetcar system's ridership,operators have to use various types of vehicle organization modes such as single routing mode,multiple routing mode,shared line mode,express-local vehicle mode and hybrid vehicle formation mode.Therefore,it is significantly necessary to carry out the research on modern streetcar capacity restrained by the application of different types of organization modes.This paper studies the practical experience of the application of different types of modern streetcar organization modes.Features of these modes are also analyzed carefully in terms of type,advantage,disadvantage,and ridership.Then the method to determine the proper type of organization mode is studied.Based on the definition of modern streetcar capacity,its influencing factors are studied systematically,including operating facility,organization mode,operating environment,etc.The operation simulation system is built to analyze the mechanism of how some key factors affect the capacity of modern streetcar.Depended on the operating process of modern streetcar in the route section,stop,intersection and terminal,and the change of modern streetcar's operating status,the calculation method of capacity restrained by operating facilities is studied.In addition,considering the characteristics of different organization modes,the calculation method of capacity restrained by the application of the corresponded organization mode is also analyzed.The evaluating process of modern streetcar system capacity in practice and plan,and the measures in terms of operating facility,organization mode and operating environment to improve the capacity are both suggested.With Huaian Modern Streetcar as a practical example,the proper organization modes of present situation in 2017 and the forward situation in 2040 are advised and the capacity is calculated with the application of these two modes.Reasonable measures to improve the capacity are also suggested in the final part of this paper.
