Research On Identification Method And Promotion Strategys Of The Distinctive Streets

The rapid urbanization brings a mass of urban problems,and the loss of characteristics is an important issue.As an arterial factor of a city,the distinctive streets play an important role in promoting the urban characteristics.Also,p ublic space has become a scarce resource due to the increase of urban population.Therefore,how to change the available street space into distinctive public space for the residents is worthy to be studied.The thesis takes distinctive street as the object and studies it from three aspects: its definition and classification,its identification and its promotion.The thesis takes distinctive street as the object and studies it from three aspects: its definition and classification,its identification and its promotion.The thesis sorts out its origin through literature review and case studies and provides a precise definition of distinctive street.The case study concludes that the key point of planning distinctive street should be the identification and the promotion with three trends including the enrichment of connotation,the improvement of scientific methods of identification and the diversification of measures to guide and control.On the basis of the research above,the thesis summarizes the features of distinctive street and categorizes them into four types: street with historical features,street with cultural activities,street with characteristic landscape and street with mixed features.The core of the thesis focuses on the identification of distinctive street and the strategies of promotion.Through exploring the essence of identification,the thesis researches on a complete and practicable process to distinguish distinctive streets — preliminary screening and detail identification,and further studies the operation of the two procedures.In order to guarantee a scientific and object identification,the thesis applies the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)to study the evaluating indicators and their weight.The thesis raises three basic principles of distinctive street's promotion,i.e.to be people oriented,to reflect the meaning of the city and to be regional,and it suggests three approaches: the recognition and definition of dominant characteristics,the control and design of space environmen t and the organization and guidance of street activities.Also,based on the case study of “The Planning Research of Distinctive Streets in Bao'an District”,the thesis expounds the concrete practice of identifying and promoting distinctive street.It is h oped that the thesis will provide a valuable stimulation and reference to both the theory and practice of the identification and the promotion of distinctive street.
