The Study Of Car Abstract Form Design Based On Form-related Psychology

Automotive styling based on abstract forms is a contemporary and advanced design method in automotive industry.Thoroughextensive research and practice,many car manufacturers have thoroughly explored such design procedure in recent years,and the new design languages shown in these resultsindicate great potentials and values of such method.However,such innovative design method has not been popularized in Chinese domestic auto industry,especially among local OEMs.Besides,from an academic perspective,the design community has only provided a descriptive explanation of each steps contained in such method,but fails to generate a systematic theory to guide and support the entire procedure.As a consequence,designers often apply such method doctrinally in their practices,but unable to grasp the true essence in the method,which led to unsatisfying results when completing such design procedure.Aiming at solving such problems,the essay employs related psychological theory as an entry point,in combination with the discipline of morphology and design psychology,to find a suitable cue in guiding the completed procedure.This cue does not only control the evolution direction of the form on a macroscopic scale,but also contribute theoretical foundation and evaluation standard for forwarding every steps,thus making the design result more convincing while keeping it in line with the general aesthetic standards.On the other hand,the input from the psychological level will effectively expand the depth of the research,and the aesthetic and cognitive content in the research are highly consistent with the nature of the predominating emotion-oriented design right now,resulting in profound application value.In the research process,the essay adopts the method of integrating theoretical analysis with actual design practice.The analysis part contains the infusion of the psychological knowledge,and the research process of the complete set of form-psychology-guided abstract form design method based on extensive case study and form exploration.The practice part puts the conclusion of the first part into use by incorporating it in a series of design projects of differentiating briefs,to test and verify the universality,effectiveness and scientific nature of the research.Hoping that the accomplishment achieved in the research will materialize a new thinking method for automotive styling,and contributing to the improvement of the design quality of Chinese local automotive styling industry as well as the optimization of the automotive design process.
