With the rapid urbanization process of China in recent years,the urban space of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi is also responsive to the opportunity of energy development and industrial transformation,and carried out rapid urban development.As a result,the urban structure,which has been relatively stable for thousands of years,has also undergone new changes,reflecting the rapid expansion of the city and the gradual contraction of the countryside.This new change,to a certain extent,threatens the already fragile ecology surrounding the town.Among them,the hilly and gully region of northern Shaanxi is the most important area which can reflect the topographic features of the loess plateau in northern Shaanxi,and the spatial development of the town is also closely related to the surrounding landforms.However,in recent years,the new-type urbanization has brought forward the requirements for urban and rural development,which including narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas,conforming to the ecological pattern and other urban and rural development points.In addition,the progress of urbanization of China into the flat in recent years,and began to pursue the new rhythm of high-quality urban space and ecological fusion in inventory planning instead of original expansion rhythm of incremental planning.Therefore,it is urgent to find out which way should be taken to continue urban space development in the hilly and gully areas of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi.Fractal theory is a geometric perspective for the analysis of graphical relations theory,but,nowadays,in planning research and practical works,fractal theory contributes the important help to explore the relationship between urban space and ecological pattern as well their internal law,which has been verified time and time again.And the fractal theory is also gradually used to analyze the urban development of the Loess Plateau region in northern Shaanxi,which plays an important supporting role in the demonstration of urban spatial development trends in northern Shaanxi.As an important part of the urban system,especially in the process of new-type urbanization,the township area plays an important role of connection,and the township area itself is also an important place for urban and rural people to live in.Therefore,it is of great significance to study of the space of the township area through the fractal theory.This paper,taking a typical hilly and gully region-Mizhi area of the township space as the research object,with the fractal theory as research method and theoretical support,tries to explore its spatial characteristics and interactional relationship between township spaces and the surrounding terrain and landforms.This study analyzes the township system in Mizhi area and selects typical villages and towns as the key analysis objects.By analyzing the spatial characteristics and connection,the paper finds out the inner development rule of the township.The paper also tries to make recommendations on the future direction of township space development in Mizhi area based on this research,combined with related industries and planning situation.It is hoped that this study could provide some supplement and improvement for the study and application of fractal theory in the human settlement space of Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi,and give a reference for the future urban planning of township areas of the Loess Plateau in the north of Shaanxi Province.
