The Research On The Design Concept Of "Micro City" For The Internal Space Of Architecture Based On The Theory Of Field Conditions

Architecture and city have similarities in respect of spatial organization,and this phenomenon has deep tradition in both eastern and western architectural theories and practices.According to the viewpoint from the publication“The architecture of the city”written by architectural theorist Aldo Rossi in 1960 s,city can be interpreted as a huge building and architecture can be seen as a small city.And in this age of information that emphasizes change and dynamism,there has been radical change in the form of both city and architecture: the traditional urban space has begun to fade,and architecture shows the intention of a micro city since its dimension expands,its function becomes more complex,and its inner space more abundant.Based on the similarity between architecture and city and the social background that the contemporary city and architecture becomes more and more similar,the thesis proposes the design concept of “micro city” based on the research of the theory of field conditions.In short,the concept of “micro city” uses city as an analogy to architecture,and focuses on bringing the characteristics of city function and space into the inner space of public architecture.There are many advantages of introducing the design concept of “micro city” into inner architectural space.On the one hand,it helps organize the complex function and space of contemporary public architecture and create unique space atmosphere;on the other hand,architecture is able to fit in the city environment and the continuity of city context can be achieved by using this method.In the aspect of research frame,the thesis follows a logical research process that goes from theoretical research to concept proposal and finally to strategies and applications.In chapter two,the thesis firstly studies on the contents and features of the theory of field conditions proposed by Stan Ellen,and analyzes the characteristics of city shown from the inner space of two works of Stan Ellen based on the theory of field conditions.On the basis of this analysis,the key concept of “micro city” is proposed.Secondly,the applicability of the concept of “micro city” and the archetype and characters of the “city” from the concept are clarified in chapter three.By using the city archetype as an analogy to architecture,the characterictics of the architecture with the concept of “micro city” are derived.Thirdly,the thesis compares the concept of “micro city” shown from other theories such as the concept of in-between space ? the theory of “megaform” and the theory of interior urbanism with the theory of field conditions.Then based on the research above,the design strategies of the concept “micro city” that can be adapted to both horizontal and vertical public architecture are concluded in the following chapter four.The design strategies include three aspects: function,space and human experience.And in order to illustrate the application feasibility of the design strategies of “micro city” in actual building projects,the thesis selects an actual building project and analyzes the design strategies of “micro city” applied to the inner space of the project in chapter five.Finally,the thesis discusses the meaning and application prospect of the concept of “micro city” in contemporary China.
